Small Loop Three Countries
A route on the water’s edge for all the family
From the terrace of Basel’s cathedral, you’ll reign over the whole city: its roofs, its bridges over the Rhine, its ferries shuttling from one bank to the other, its sunny banks, perfect to stroll around and enjoy life.
The people of Basel live in the "Dreiländereck", literally the "corner of the three countries", where the "Rhine bend" forms a kind of link between the inhabitants of the Rhine banks.
From this cosmopolitan city, which has refined the art of living, you can reach one of the many hydroelectric facilities on the Rhine with just a few turns of your wheels. The impressive dams and hydroelectric power stations in Birsfelden or the Ile du Rhin remind us that the river is a huge source of renewable energy.
A few more pedal strokes are all you need to reach the protected natural spaces of the Petite Camargue Alsacienne and the Kebsbachtal. They form a kind of green belt around the trinational agglomeration of Basel. From an observatory in the heart of nature, you can observe the abundant fauna and flora of the Rhine. For just a moment, you’ll feel alone in the world.
Discover the world of salmon, beavers and other species at the 11 stations along the route, drawn up by the "Experience Nature - Without Borders" project.
