Architecture
Open the doors of castles, churches and monasteries, succumb to the charm of the picturesque villages or stand in awe of the latest architectural creations in the region.
The Three Countries Region does not only impress with its centuries-old monuments to the art of construction and its high density of historical monuments. In all three countries, exceptional buildings for private or public use, from classical modern architecture or more recent, mark the urban landscape. They are partly linked to great names in modern architecture - there are buildings by Zaha M. Hadid, Herzog & de Meuron, Mario Botta, Frank O. Gehry or Lacaton & Vassal. With the buildings of nine Pritzker Prize winners, Basel is undoubtedly a centre of contemporary architecture. But the local architectural agencies are also part of a dynamic that makes the region's architectural landscape known far and wide.
The exceptional modern architecture can be admired in all its beauty at the Vitra Design Museum. Since the 1980s, Vitra has had buildings constructed on its campus by world-renowned architects. They can be discovered through a guided visit.
The Swiss Architecture Museum is another landmark for architecture lovers. Through temporary exhibitions, guided tours and workshops, the museum presents architectural themes to a wide audience.
