The Banks of the Rhine in Rheinfelden: “Rheinliebe” Cycle Route ("Rhine My Love")
Description
This route is aptly entitled: "Rhine My Love". 35 km long, it allows the Rhine to be seen from every angle.
From Rheinfelden, the route takes you to the German bank of the river. You will pass the "Kraftwerk 1898" exhibition pavilion, which tells the story of the oldest hydroelectric power station in Europe. The cycle path then passes through the new Rheinfelden power station and takes you, for the first time since your departure, into Switzerland, where you pedal through a charming backdrop of forest and fields. Before returning, stop at the ruins of the Roman watchtower in Pferichgraben. You can then return to Germany by crossing the Rhine a second time at the Ryburg-Schwörstadt power station. Nature lovers will find plenty to satisfy their passion here: the Dinkelberg Geo-Museum, a hiking trail to the Teufelsloch (Devil's Hole) or a descent into the Tschamberhöhle cave.
The rest of the route leads past the romantic Beuggen Castle, through the German town of Rheinfelden and the surrounding fields before reaching the edge of the Herten Forest, which will remain behind you as you approach the idyllic Altrhein Whylen. Whether you are on the Swiss or German side of the border, take the time to rest in this green sea. On the way back to the old Rhine bridge in Rheinfelden, the cycle path jumps between Switzerland and Germany: Kaiseraugst (CH), Herten (D) then Augarten (CH).
The low gradient makes this outing accessible to families with children, who can shorten the route if necessary.
