Chirsi-Route (Route 111)
Description
Route 111 snakes through an idyllic backdrop. The name "Chirsi" comes from the many high-trunk cherry trees that border it, and for which Basel is famous throughout Switzerland. In spring, when they bloom, the cherry trees give a magical atmosphere to these picturesque hills. In summer, when the trees give off their aromatic scents and the fruit is fully ripe, it is impossible to resist a tasting session. Many characteristic inns open their doors to you for a gourmet break. Don’t miss tasting local specialities at farms either. Finally, the charming old towns of Liestal and Laufen - two jewels of medieval architecture built under the Froburg dynasty - are full of historical and cultural sights to enhance your walk.
